tony-hall-newsroom.jpg?resize=770%2C578&The BBC is to appoint dedicated controllers to run the BBC iPlayer and its much-publicised radio and podcast counterpart BBC Sounds.

In an email to staff, BBC director-general Tony Hall said he was creating a single point of leadership. “These are big jobs – critical to delivering the world-class online services people expect from the BBC. Dan McGolpin, currently Commissioning Controller for Daytime and Programming, has been named as Controller BBC iPlayer and Programming. Already leading the BBC iPlayer content offer, McGolpin will now act as the single lead across the BBC for iPlayer.

In Radio and Music, a role will be advertised for Controller BBC Sounds.

Both platforms were identified as key priorities in the BBC’s Annual Plan.
